Kurt Dasser

Kurt Dasser was born on 08.02.1958 in Bozen, in South Tyrol. Thinking back to his youth, his professional path led him to music, as well as to the study of mathematics and natural sciences.

In this field he also completed his doctorate in mathematics at the University of Innsbruck. In the eighties he began to teach in the secondary school in Castelrotto, in the Sciliar region, where he worked for more than 20 years.

In October 1998 his professional life changed. From correcting schoolwork and tests to the musical boards, which then meant the world to him.
He became the guitarist and the second voice of the most successful band of the folk scene of all times, the "Kastelruther Spatzen".

As part of the "Spatzen", Kurt has been playing thousands of concerts throughout the German-speaking world for over 20 years.
Since 2016 Kurt embarked on new handicraft enterprise.

He has always had a passion for woodwork and handicrafts and this brought him on completely new paths, the world of woodturning, which lit up his passion in a completely new way.

So it came that he took courses with the master woodturner Martin Adomat in Allgäu. Step by step he settled into the exciting and varied world of woodturning.

In 2016  "KurArt" came to life.
Kurt now runs the business and the workshop Kurt Art in Castelrotto (Dolomiten Straße 4B) together with his son Alexander and his daughter-in-law Melanie.
Here you can watch him every minute live, while he is turning the products and buy his handmade art.
In his remaining time he is on tour with the Kastelruther Spatzen.

He says:

"It's the perfect balance to the music.
Working with wood is the direct contact with nature."

"In both activities, something new is created only from thought,
and touches people's hearts."
